Nanea Mitchell and Luciana Vega share adventures

Image
Nanea and Luciana are going to have so much fun and adventures together this year. Nanea is going to take Luciana to the Mauna Kea Observatory on the Big Island of Hawaii.  Mauna kea's altitude and isolation in the middle of the Pacific ocean make it an ideal location for astronomical observation. Currently there are 13 independent multi-national astronomical research facilities located on the summit. They are also going to visit the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. That's where space Camp is located.  Dr. Wernher von Braun and his team of rocket scientists transformed Huntsville, Alabama, known in the 1950s as the “Watercress Capital of the World,” into a technology center that today is home to the second largest research park in the United States and to the U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) with its world-class educational program, Space Camp®. Lots more adventures are planned. We're going to have a great time.

Kanani's Shave Ice Treats

Image
Girl of the Year (2011) Kanani Akina  lives in Hawaii on the island of Kaua'i. She is a cheerful girl who wants to make life beautiful for others. Kanani loves to help out in her family's shave ice business. It doesn't hurt that she gets to taste all the delicious flavors. Kanani especially likes introducing tourists to the Hawaiian treat. "Shave ice is kind of like a snow cone but much lighter and fluffier" Kanani tells one customer "And there are tons of flavors to choose from," Kanani has fresh pineapple and bananas to use in her shave ice plus a rainbow-colored lineup of fruit syrups. "My favorite is a mix of pineapple, mango and passion-fruit" she says. "What kind would you like? They're all ono-licious!" Play the Ono-licious  game ! Mahalo Nui

Design a LEI with Nanea

Image
I just found a brand new Nanea game on the American Girl site.  It's very simple to play and you can download the picture when you are done. Leis were originally worn by ancient  Polynesians  and some  Asian people  as part of custom.  They were often used by  Native Hawaiians  to signify their ranks and royalty.  They are also worn as a form of honor to each other and their gods.  The religion of the Native Hawaiians as well as the  hula  custom is tied into the leis that they wore.  Leis were introduced to Native Hawaiians by Polynesians who visited the islands and imparted the tradition of wearing leis onto the people. On the first of every May, an event called Lei Day is celebrated to honor the act of lei making and the custom surrounding it. (wikipedia)
